Apple iPod Shuffle (512MB) Reviews

CNET has written a review about Apple iPod Shuffle (512MB)

The good: Design is dead simple and compact yet stylish and wearable; excellent integration with iTunes; solid sound quality; affordable.

The bad: No LCD; no extra features such as an equalizer; slow transfer speeds.

The bottom line: The iPod Shuffle, with its ultralow price, its dead-simple design, and its iTunes integration, is virtually guaranteed to be a hit, especially among those looking for a second iPod.

PCMag.com has posted a review about iPod Shuffle and writes - ‘Minimalism has always been a guiding principle at Apple, and the new iPod shuffle is an outstanding example. The slim white shell encases a 512MB or 1GB flash-based player, with nothing more than a four-way rocker ring and play/pause button on the front and a power switch and battery-check button on the back. You pull off one end of the 0.8-ounce player to expose the USB plug. The shuffle has no display to tell you what song you’re listening to, no playlists, and no EQ settings. Instead, you get a new version of iTunes that can randomly load the shuffle with songs; two positions on the power switch let you play them in order or randomly. The big idea here, such as it is, is that shuffle owners want to be continually surprised at which songs pop up from their music collections.’

Macworld has got this to say about iPod Shuffle - ‘Not content to dominate the middle- and high-end of the portable music player market, Apple has determined to own it all by releasing the smallest and most affordable iPod yet, the iPod shuffle. Available in capacities of 512MB and 1GB (priced at $99 and $149, respectively) the shuffle is remarkable not only for its size and price, but also for its lack of a display. Is a display-less iPod for you? That depends on what you expect from your music player and how much effort you’re willing to expend creating playlists that make sense for your on-the-go lifestyle.’

GIZMODO mentioned about Mossberg review of the iPod Shuffle at his site on ‘Wall Street Journel’ which is only accessible by paid subscriber - ‘Mossberg, being the top of the business nerd heap that he is, got to play around with an iPod Shuffle before anyone else, and shares his thoughts on his little ‘Wall Street Journal’ site. They’re too good to be read by people that don’t subscribe. Fortunately, somebody I know has a login, and pulls out the meat—the bit at the bottom where he stops describing the Shuffle and his love for the Bee Gees and gets down to brass tacks.’
