PlayListMag.com posted a review on Altec Lansing inMotion iM7 and gives a favourable rating, 4 out of 5. They said - ‘Until recently, if you wanted a compact speaker system for your iPod, you were forced to compromise: portability or sound quality/volume. That’s not to say you didn’t have any good options; we’ve been big fans of portable systems such as Altec Lansing’s inMotion iM3 and iMmini ($180 and $130, respectively), and Logic 3’s iStation ($100). But although these compact systems are great for throwing in your suitcase or laptop bag, their volume levels are limited (by both their size and their 4AA batteries) and their sound—though good considering the size of the systems—isn’t comparable to that of “home” or “desktop” speaker systems. On the other hand, Bose’s $300 SoundDock provides impressive sound quality and volume in a compact desktop/bookshelf package—but you have to give up battery-powered portability.’
CoolTechZone has also reviewed the Altec Lansing inMotion iM7 and mentioned about the rapid move by the company tpwared becoming one of the innovative consumer electronics companies. From the review they write - ‘
While Altec Lansing has continued the institution to have a wireless remote present with the iM7, the company has indeed worked on two aspects that offer exciting possibilities. The first out of the two is the ability to power the speaker set either via batteries or with an AC adapter directly. Although Altec Lansing does not discuss the potential battery life of the speaker set, this feature could impact greatly on iM7’s portability and usability; you will have your portable audio player as well as a jukebox wherever you go. The second interesting feature is the speaker’s ability to output a video signal through an S-Video Out port. This is possibly the only speaker set that currently has this feature specially designed for the iPod Photo.’
PCMag.com reviewed the Altec Lansing inMotion iM7 as very good and awarded it the PC Editor’s Choice. They write - ‘…Analog audio inputs provide versatility. Battery or AC operation. Adjustable docking cradle fits any generation of iPod or iPod mini. Looks very cool. Full sound, with plenty of volume… They don’t like about the absent of LCD or LED on the unit and some button controls only available on the wireless remote. Overall they write ..
This versatile portable speaker system looks and sounds good enough to get just about any party started. The price may seem high, but you’re getting plenty of power for the money..
iLounge has awarded Altec Lansing inMotion iM7 the best speaker for 2005. They write - ‘Last year, our key factor in picking a winning speaker was the price to performance ratio, and that remains a very serious concern to us. Normally the higher than average $249 price tag of the iM7 system would have made it less of a viable competitor in this category. But Altec hit all of the right notes with this design, from looks and strong performance to portability and what appears to be emerging as the “new iPod trend” - a dock with remote and speakers. The next generation of iPod speaker systems needs to view iM7 as the one to beat on pricing, performance (both audio and remote control), and design. Simply cloning this and trying to sell it for $20 less is not a winning strategy: we think the $149-199 category is ripe for competition this year.’
